For many years New Horizons Ministries’ entire focus was on child care. In 2005 we opened our first thrift store, and in 2008 we had the opportunity to open the second store. The stores have assisted us in providing additional funds to make mission growth possible.
Jobs for Moms
One of the greatest challenges for someone with a felony is finding a job. At the stores the moms in New Horizons Ministries’ program are given the opportunity to work in a wholesome environment and develop skills that will benefit them in future employment. Serving in our stores enables them to see Christians in everyday life and provides many occasions to discuss faith and philosophies of life.
Although New Horizons Ministries has been in operation since 1990, many local people were not aware of the service New Horizons offers to incarcerated moms and their babies. Opening our thrift stores has provided a link from the ministry to the local people. The stores have allowed many caring people to become a part of the ministry through their donations and patronage. These retail outlets have been a valuable tool in promoting the mission’s vision and goals to the community.
